Hello, I’m Helen.

My job is to accompany people in their pain or stuckness and to provide a safe, creative and welcoming space in order that they can explore themselves and their current difficulties without judgment.

I provide a professional and boundaried practice without losing the measure of curiosity, wisdom, humour and calm that makes me who I am. I know something of what it is like to find life difficult – to feel sadness, loss, anger, grief, despair and rage as well as the equally difficult numbness that can descend in very challenging times.

Helen Smith is a therapist, psychotherapist and counsellor based in Pittville, Cheltenham.

Sometimes therapy can be very challenging; exploring past hurts and naming things we might feel ashamed of is not easy. I will support you to find the courage to do this in your own time so that you can move forward with more freedom and choice.

At times being in therapy can be an adventure as we get in touch with new hope and excitement and start to see there is more to us than meets the eye or that we ever knew.

Whether you are at the end of your tether, or reaching a turning point in life, whether knocked down by bereavement or thrown sideways by unexpected events, I am here to walk with you and to help you find a way of living that feels right for you.

Since 2005 I have had the great privilege of working in various settings and with tutors, supervisors, colleagues, mentors, therapists and peers from a wide variety of theoretical backgrounds, and from various genders, beliefs, classes and experience.

The breadth of this work influences my Intergrative practice to this day. The settings I have worked in have meant that I have been able to meet a very wide variety of clients, whether for initial assessment, short term work or for much longer term work. I have seen that regardless of the therapist’s background, a warm and solid connection between a therapist and the people she works with is of vital importance. Until very recently I was also Head of Philosophy, Theology and Ethics at a local school, which has very much informed my work, especially with young people.
